February/March Calendar

Mondays: The Save Democracy Action Group has begun a new round of postcard writing -- take part at 10:15 am each Monday in the Napier Common Room at Pilgrim Place. This campaign includes cards to Wisconsin voters. Newcomers are very welcome!

Each Wednesday: Permanent Ceasefire Vigil - corner of Foothill and Indian Hill, 4 pm.

Every Friday: Peace Vigil - corner of Arrow Highway and Indian Hill - 3:30 to 4:30 pm, and at Pilgrim Place in the Octagonal Garden from 4 - 4:30 pm.

Thursday, February 5, 5 pm via Zoom: Eyes on Ice Document and Record event, sponsored by No Kings with registration through Indivisible (click here for link). The latest updates on ICE and CBP’s dangerous operations will be covered, along with a discussion of your rights when documenting and recording law enforcement encounters, and how you can continue to take action.

Sunday, February 8, 1-3 pm, Claremont Friends Meeting House: Canvassing Training, sponsored by Swing Left Inland Empire. Demonstrations, tools and plenty of practice provided on how to engage with voters and build trust using empathetic and reflective listening. Register in advance using this link to take part. Wednesday, February 11, 10:30 am, Decker: A Merrill Ring Memorial Current Affairs Forum, Refugee and Immigration Partners - a Panel. Featuring Pomona Economic Opportunity Center, UnCommon Good, ICE Out of Pomona and more.

Sunday, February 15, 6-8 pm, Hillcrest Meeting Room: Middle East Peace Group Educational Forum. Featured panelists to include Dr. Ahmed Sobol, Dr. Andy Winnick, and Soheila Azizi. Dr. Gary Gilbert is also a possible panelist. The Forum will allow each speaker to share what they see is the nature of the problem of working towards peace within the current situation.This might include the conflict between Israel and Palestine, or the challenges we face in working for unity and peace within our own communities.

Wednesday, February 25, 4:30 pm at First Christian Church Pomona and on Zoom: Monthly ICON meeting planning public accountability sessions regarding ICE responses with public officials in the Inland Empire. This meeting is also available via Zoom for people who aren't able to attend in person. Please contact Evan F. for additional details.

Saturday, March 7, 3-5 pm at the Gold Student Center Multipurpose Room at Pitzer College: The 31st Circle of Chairs Interracial and Intergenerational Dialogue on Race. We will be joined by the class “Racial and Ethnic Relations” taught by Pitzer College Professor Jessica Kizer as well as other Claremont Colleges students, and we continue with the topic “Should DEI D-I-E? Part 2” to fully engage next steps.  Members of our Pilgrim Place partners, NAACP-Pomona Valley Branch, National Council of Negro Women-Pomona Valley Section, the Baha’i Community of Claremont, the Claremont Friends Meeting, and our newest partner, Ecumenical Center for Black Church Studies or ECBCS,will be in attendance.
