September 2026 Updates

Mondays: The Save Democracy Action Group continues its postcard writing campaign to voters nationwide, focused on the upcoming November mid-term election. You can take part at 10:15 am each Monday in the Napier Common Room at Pilgrim Place, or bring postcard packets home to write at your convenience. Newcomers and returning writers are very welcome!

Each Wednesday: Permanent Ceasefire Vigil - corner of Foothill and Indian Hill, 4:30 - 5 pm. Small actions for every day remain posted at the Decker Patio and Garden Cafe entrances to Abernethy -- these are geared to promoting peace and justice in Gaza and beyond. Please note, this vigil will not occur on weeks when temperatures are over 90 degrees.

Every Friday: Peace Vigil - corner of Arrow Highway and Indian Hill - 3:30 to 4:30 pm, and at Pilgrim Place in the Octagonal Garden from 4 - 4:30 pm.

Monday, September 7 through Friday, September 11, 1-2:15 pm, Abernethy: Support fair trade practices and get your holiday and year-round shopping needs covered with Equal Exchange. Chris and Mary C. will answer questions and help you place your orders every day this week after lunch. This will be the only sale on campus until Fall of 2027, so don't miss your chance!

Monday, September 7, 3 pm, Napier Brunger Room: FOSNA members will host the first of four discussions of the book, AN AMERICAN ISRAEL, by Amy Kaplan. Meetings will continue every other week, on September 21, October 5 and October 21. Contact Lynn R. for additional information.

Tuesday, September 8, 1 pm, Decker: Inland Valley Hope Partners' CEO Kami Grosevor will share her perspectives on IVHP and the work they are doing to support the basic needs of local families and individuals through food pantries and more.

Wednesday, September 9, 10:30 am, Decker: This month's Merrill Ring Memorial Current Affairs Forum will present an early edition of the Marilee Staff Voter Guide addressing propositions and other statewide elections to be decided in November.

Wednesday, September 9, 3 pm, Decker: The Tongva Journey Group will host a "Conversation with Tongva Neighbors," address Tongva history, culture, and future concerns. Community Outreach Director Mona Morales Recalde is the featured speaker.

Thursday, September 10, 10:30 am, Napier Common Room: Quarterly meeting of The Justice Groups at Pilgrim Place will focus on the actions of our members focused on peace-related work. All are welcome!

Monday, September 14, 1 pm, Virtual Event: Join Third Act presenters and learn more about how to "Align Your Money With Your Values (through) Banks and Credit Unions." First in a three-part series on finding financial institutions that use your deposits to fund local businesses and farms, solar projects, build local housing and invest in your community . . . and not fossil fuel projects. Monday, September 14, 3-4:30 pm, Napier Common Room: FOSNA members quarterly meeting for planning and reporting. (FOSNA stands for Friends of Sabeel North America, which is a group supporting peace and security for the people of Palestine. This group also organizes the weekly Wednesday Permanent Ceasefire Vigil, described above.)

Tuesday, September 15, 3 pm, Decker: Environmental Concerns will host the quarterly meeting of our SSAFE chapter (the acronym stands for Senior Stewards Acting For the Environment, which is a nationwide network of resident-led chapters within senior living communities). Whether you are currently a member or not, you are welcome to come and learn more.

Wednesday, September 16, 10:30 am, Decker: Our 41st District California representative in the State Assembly, John Harabedian, will join us for a briefing on Statewide issues. Time for questions and answers will also be provided.
